Kneibert opens new wound and
ostomy clinics
Kneibert Clinic recently opened a wound and
ostomy clinic at their Kneibert Clinic North location at
2588 North
Westwood Boulevard inside the Bluff Radiology building.
Family Nurse Practitioner Devona
Gibbs is
director of the two clinics called the Poplar Bluff Wound
Clinic and the
Poplar Bluff Ostomy Clinic.
Gibbs is well qualified for the position.
She has been an FNP since 1995 and a registered nurse since
1974. She had
13 years experience in treating wounds and was certified
as a wound, ostomy and contienence nurse after attending
a two-month Wound and Ostomy course at Emory University Clinic
in Atlanta.
Dr. Basil Georgi is medical director of the
Wound Clinic.
The Ostomy Clinic treats problems associated
with colosotomies (colon), ileostomies (small intestine)
and urostomies (urinary
tract).
Gibbs said, "There are various types of appliances and
products available to provide for optimum fit for collecting
drainage. We have access to all these products and can provide
guidance in sizing and fitting them as well as providing
care for the skin around the stoma."
The Wound Clinic treats wounds that require
special treatment, such as diabetic foot ulcers, non-healing
leg wounds from
venous or arterial problems, ulcers, burns, infected wounds
and others.
When complications arise Gibbs is assisted
at the Wound and Ostomy clinics by Drs. Georgi, Kean Griffith,
Kirby Turner
and Michael Stevenson, D. O. all of whom work out of Kneibert
Clinic's main location on Lester Street.
The Wound and Ostomy clinics are open from
8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. On Tuesday and Thursday
afternoons,
Gibbs works out of the office making calls at Three Rivers
Healthcare, area nursing homes at Piedmont and Dexter and
house calls.
"
We're glad we have this service available now and that we
have someone with expertise in treating wounds and ostomies," said
Bob Christian, Kneibert Clinic director. "This is the
only clinic of its kind in Poplar Bluff."
Gibbs said most insurance companies cover
the services offered at the clinics.
